Our tips for storing wine after the holidays 🍾

The festivities are over, but your love of wine remains intact! After the festivities, it's essential to know how to store your bottles properly, whether they're opened or still closed. Here's our advice on how to prolong the life of your wines and enjoy their full aroma.

- Store open bottles with care

An opened bottle can still offer you a great experience if you follow these steps:

  • Use an air vacuum pump to slow down oxidation, essential for red wines like our Australrich and complex.
  • Fill in properly with an airtight cap to preserve wines with delicate aromas, such as our Rectoratus.
  • Store in a cool place A bottle of white wine can be kept for a few days in the fridge. Red wines, on the other hand, are best kept in a cool, dark place. Before serving, let them return to room temperature.

💡 Recommended duration :

  • Whites and rosés : 3 to 5 days.
  • Red as Austral : 2 to 4 days.
  • Sparkling or sparkling : 1 to 2 days with a special cap.

- Store your unopened bottles in optimum conditions

For your unused bottles, there are a few basic rules to follow:

  • Ideal temperature : Variations in temperature can alter the quality of the wine and affect its ageing. For optimum preservation, maintain a stable temperature between 12 and 15°C.
  • Controlled humidity : A humidity level of between 60 % and 75 % is ideal for preserving corks and preventing them from drying out.
  • Prone position : Cork stoppers need to be kept moist to ensure a watertight seal, so it's advisable to store bottles lying down.
  • Away from the light: Bottles appreciate darkness to preserve their fresh, fruity aromas.

- Sort and organize your cellar

January is the perfect time to reorganize your collection and plan your tastings:

  • Classify your wines by type: Place ready-to-eat bottles within easy reach for year-round access.
  • Anticipate your next opportunities: Plan now which wine will go with which dish at your next dinner party.

- Your leftover wine has a second life!

If, despite your best efforts, a bottle loses its freshness, don't throw it away!

  • In the kitchen: Reds add depth to meat sauces, while whites enhance fish and poultry sauces.
  • For desserts : A red wine can be reduced to accompany poached pears or create a wine caramel base.
