JOHANNISBERG

Wine-growing region: Valais
Alcohol content: 13% vol.
Format: 75 cl – cork
Serving temperature: 6–10 °C

The grapes come from vines over 50 years old, located on the Chamoson hillsidein the heart of the Valais region. From the 1920s onwards, this grape variety found its ideal terroir in the schist soils of Chamoson, on one of the largest alluvial fans in Europe. Our wine comes partly from the renowned Crêtes-aux-Sang vineyard plot, a family-owned vineyard that has been passed down through several generations.

Altitude: 500 – 580 meters

Soils: Clay-limestone and schist soils

Exposure: Terraces of the Chamoson hillside

Vine training:  : Guyot pruning

Yield: 850 g/m²

Planting density: 10,000 vines/hectare

This high-altitude terroir, benefiting from more than 300 days of sunshine per year, a dry climate, and the warm Foehn wind, promotes optimal grape ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic intensity.

The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of integrated production, certified by the Vitival label. This voluntary approach is based on respect for the environment, biodiversity protection, responsible use of plant protection products, and continuous monitoring of the vineyard.

The grapes are exclusively hand-harvested from centuries-old terraces, sometimes accessible only by helicopter, ensuring rigorous selection and optimal quality.

Sylvaner is today the second most widely planted white grape variety in the Valais region. Introduced at the beginning of the 20th century, it quickly established itself thanks to its excellent adaptation to the Alpine climate. This wine has exceptional ageing potential: the longer it matures, the more its fruity aromas develop and gain in complexity.

The Johannisberg AOC Valais designation takes its name from the famous Johannisberg Castle, located in the Rheingau region of Germany. In the 19th century, Sylvaner vines from this estate were introduced to Valais, where local winegrowers adopted the name “Johannisberg” to refer to this grape variety.
