Syrah

Popular tradition links Syrah with the Iranian city of Shiraz. However, modern research has proven that this variety has its origins in the Rhône Basin. The closeness of the river seems to suit it marvellously , and Valaisanne Syrahs which grow along the length of the Upper Rhône represent the finest expressions of this varietal.

Vinification

Slow maceration over three to four weeks enables the soft extraction of the tannins responsable for the colour and structure of red wine. Six to eight months ageing in vats during which the second fermentation takes place round off the production of this speciality.

Colour

Intense red with black and violet hues.

Nose

Spicy, peppery bouquet featuring notes of liquorice, cassis, black cherries and undergrowth.

Palate

The aroma of spice, liquorice, cassis and dark fruits reveal a rich and voluminous palate of closed and fused tannins.

Food partners

Syrah is a wonderful accompaniment to grilled fowl, red meats and cheese platters.
