Syrah

Popular tradition links Syrah with the Iranian town of Schiraz. However, modern research has shown that this variety originated in the Rhone basin. The proximity of this river seems to suit it perfectly, and the Valais Syrahs that grow along the upper Rhone provide some of the best expressions of this grape variety.

Winemaking

A slow maceration lasting three to four weeks gently extracts the color and tannins responsible for the structure of this red wine. Several months' ageing in vats, during which the second fermentation takes place, concludes the production of this specialty.

Dress

Intense red with black and purplish highlights.

Nose

The spicy, peppery bouquet is characterized by notes of licorice, blackcurrant, black cherry and undergrowth.

Mouth

Aromas of spice, liquorice, blackcurrant and black fruit reveal a rich, full-bodied palate supported by firm, mellow tannins.

Gastronomic pairings

Syrah is the perfect accompaniment to grilled poultry, red meats and cheese platters.
